About GigDriverCA
GigDriverCA is an independent California consumer guide for people who drive for rideshare and delivery apps. We explain insurance, deductibles, claims and the other rules that matter when you use your own car to earn, in plain English.
What we do
- Explain the rules in plain words. Each guide links to the sources it relies on: California statutes, state agency pages (like the California Public Utilities Commission and the Department of Insurance), and the app companies' own published terms, so you can read them yourself.
- Keep the law and company terms apart. When a number comes from the law, we cite the statute. When it comes from an app company (like a deductible), we say it's that company's own terms, which it can change.
- Keep it current. Each guide shows when it was last reviewed. Spot a mistake? Email hello@gigdriverca.com.
How we write and review guides
- Primary sources first. Guides are built on the current text of California statutes on the Legislature's official site, plus official agency pages. When an agency page is out of date compared with the statute, we say so and follow the statute.
- Company pages are labeled. Uber, Lyft, DoorDash and other companies publish their own insurance terms. We quote or summarize them as the company's terms, not as the law, and we re-check them when we review a guide.
- Checked before publishing. Each statement about the law is checked against the source it cites, and every guide ends with a list of those sources.
- Dated. Each guide shows when it was published and when it was last reviewed. When we re-check a guide against its sources, we update that date.
- No made-up numbers. Examples are labeled as made-up when they are, and we don't publish statistics we can't source.
- Corrections. If something is wrong or out of date, email hello@gigdriverca.com with the page and what looks wrong. We fix confirmed errors and update the review date.
- Money doesn't change the content. If we ever add affiliate links, partners won't see or approve guides before they're published.
What we don't do
- We are not a law firm and don't provide legal services or legal advice.
- We don't represent anyone, take cases, or refer people to lawyers.
- We aren't affiliated with, endorsed by, or paid by Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Amazon, Instacart, or any insurance company. We use their names only to describe them.
- Reading this site doesn't create an attorney-client relationship. See the disclaimer.
How the site is funded
Right now, GigDriverCA has no ads and no affiliate links. In the future, some pages (for example, dash cam guides) may include affiliate links. If they do, they'll be clearly marked, and they'll never change what the guides say about the law. See our affiliate disclosure.
Who runs GigDriverCA
GigDriverCA is an independent California consumer guide for rideshare and delivery drivers. It isn't a law firm, it doesn't promote any law firm, and no law firm, app company or insurance company pays for what we publish.
Everything here is general legal information, not legal advice. Each guide cites the California statutes and official sources it relies on, so you can check them yourself.
